Why throw money around carelessly when you can save it? When it comes to moving, many people don’t realize that you can save a lot of money (and worries about workers handling your belongings roughly) by doing the packing yourself. As the owner, you are the one who knows best what should be handled more carefully and what should be given extra attention. It’s not easy packing the contents of your home into cardboard boxes, but it saves you money, and when you unpack them later, you will know roughly which box contains what.
For a more efficient move, you should plan ahead on how to pack your belongings. Purchase your moving boxes from a reputable company and take note of the quality and size of the boxes you buy. The boxes for moving house can be easily bought, or may even be provided by your moving company. You may also want to consider getting special boxes such as wardrobe boxes and picture moving boxes if you need them.
It’s tempting to toss everything you see into a box, but don’t! Plan properly and keep the weight of the boxes even. Use smaller boxes for heavier items, and make sure that you can lift it. If the box is too heavy, your belongings may fall out from the bottom and end up getting damaged. Be sure to protect the fragile items with bubble wrap, and stuff any empty spaces in the box with newspapers as padding during the move.
Leave the larger furniture to the moving company to handle, but tape the drawers and wardrobe doors shut. Lastly, remember to unplug your electrical appliances and leave your moving boxes in the hall before the movers arrive to make it easier for the workers to load them onto the truck.
